Train services suspended in Kashmir for third time in a week

Srinagar:For the third time train service was suspended again on Friday for security reasons in the Kashmir valley in view of joint resistance leadership shutdown call against the killing of scholar Manan Wani and his associate in an encounter in Shatgund area of Handwara in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

No train will chug on Budgam-Srinagar-Islamabad-Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu region. Similarly, trains will also not run on Srinagar-Badgam and Baramulla in north Kashmir,’ a senior railway official told. 

 

Train service was resumed only yesterday after remaining suspended on Wednesday in the valley,  after the general strike in the areas where voting for second of the four-phased polls was held .

The Joint Resistance Leadership(JRL) comprising of Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Malik has called a strike today against the Scholar Manan Wani’s killing.

Manan Wani, a Phd scholar of Aligarh Muslim University turned militant and his associate were killed by forces in an encounter at Handwara in Kupwara yesterday.
