Educational institutions closed in majority districts in Kashmir

Srinagar: Educational institutions in majority districts were closed on Friday as a precautionary measure in the Kashmir valley, where Resistance leaders have called for a shutdown against the killing of two Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) militants in Kupwara.

Manan Wani, a PhD scholar-turned militant and his associate were killed in an encounter with government forces at Handwara in Kupwara yesterday, forcing authorities to suspend class work in majority educational institutions on Thursday.

The Kashmir University (KU) and Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), Awantipora, also remained closed and also postponed examinations scheduled to be held today.

The administration of majority districts, including Kupwara, Srinagar, Badgam, Pulwama, Ganderbal, Baramulla and Bandipora ordered closure of educational institutions as a precautionary measure to prevent any law and order problem.
