Handwara gunfight: Educational institutions shut in Kashmir parts on government direction

Srinagar: Government has ordered suspension of class work in educational institutions of various districts of Kashmir valley after reports about trapping of top militant Manan Wani in a gunfight in northern Kashmir Kupwara’s district.

Kupwara district officials said that the class work in all educational institutions of the district will remain suspended.

Officials said that they have received instructions from the office of Deputy Commissioner Kupwara to suspend class work in all colleges and other higher secondary schools in sub division Handwara today.

District Bandipora authorities have also ordered the closure of all educational institutions.

Authorities of district Baramulla have also ordered the closure of colleges and higher secondary schools (HSS) in Pattan, Sopore sub division and Baramulla town.

Earlier, Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), Awantipora ordered the closure of the varsity.  Sources said the class work will also remain suspended in all degree colleges and some schools of Srinagar district today.

Reports said that three militants, including a top commander Mannan Wani, were trapped in a gunfight with the government forces in Shatgund village of Handwara.
