Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir police on Wednesday arrested Shi’ite mourners here at Batamaloo after they tried to carry out a procession.

Reports said that dozens of mourners took out a march and tried to proceed towards city center Lalchowk.

However, they said that police swung into action and arrested them.

Authorities have already imposed severe restrictions in Srinagar city to prevent the Muharram processions.

The restrictions have led to massive traffic jams in the city forcing the police to issue a traffic advisory.
