Forces conduct searches at houses of Riyaz Naikoo’s relatives in Awantpora; Families allege ransacking

Srinagar: Government forces late Friday night allegedly ransacked the houses of the relatives of Hizb commander Riyaz Naikoo and also dug up the lawn of one of the relatives in Beighpora area of Awantipora in Pulwama district.

Local sources said that a contingent of forces barged into the houses of Nazir Ahmad Naikoo and Nisar Ahmad Naikoo and carried out searches.

They alleged that during the searches, the forces ransacked their belongings.

The locals said that the forces also put in service a JCB and dug up the lawn of one of the relatives over suspicions of hiding ammunition.

However, police officials of the district denied the allegations of ransacking and said that searches were carried out following inputs about the presence of a hideout.

They said that there was a search operation conducted by the army and police was accompanying.  “There were inputs that a hideout was there at the house. Searches were conducted but there was no ransacking, “
