Scribes protest against the arrest of their colleague Asif Sultan

Srinagar: Scribes of Kashmir on Monday staged a sit-in protest against the arrest of journalist Aasif Sultan, at press colony Srinagar.

The protest demonstration organized by the Kashmir Journalist Association was later joined by Kashmir Working Journalist Association, Kashmir Press Photographers Association and Kashmir Press Videographers Association. The protesting journalists who were carrying placards demanded the immediate release of journalist Aasif Sultan, who was arrested by Jammu and Kashmir Police last month.

Aasif Sultan has been sent to the Central Jail Srinagar till September 22, by the court. Police have said they arrested the scribe for his involvement in a militant attack. But the publication for which the scribe works insisted Sultan was arrested for his longer narrative on Burhan Wani, the slain popular Hizb commander.
