Omar questions shunting out of J&K DGP Vaid

Srinagar:  Questioning the transfer of Jammu and Kashmir DGP S P Vaid, former state chief minister Omar Abdullah said there was no hurry to replace the police chief as there are enough problems for the state police other than having to deal will the confusion of leadership.

‘There was no hurry to replace @spvaid. He should have been changed only when a permanent arrangement had been worked out. @JmuKmrPolice has enough problems without having to deal with confusion of leadership,’ Mr Abdullah, who is the vice president of National Conference (NC), wrote on micro-blogging site twitter.

Mr Abdullah also questioned government’s decision to appoint Director General of Prison Dilabagh Singh as DGP as a temporary arrangement.

‘Changing the DG is the prerogative of the administration but why a DG as a temporary arrangement? The current DG won’t know if he’s going to stay & others who would like his job will be trying to replace him. None of this is good for @JmuKmrPolice,’ he added.

Dr Vaid was shifted and posted as Transport Commissioner with headquarters at winter capital, Jammu.

Mr Singh, a 1987 batch IAS officer, shall hold the additional charge of the post of DGP till a regular arrangement is made, an order issued by the Home Department late Thursday night said.
