Article 35-A: Rajouri, Doda, Kishtwar observe shut down in protest

Jammu: In protest against abrogation of Article 35-A, three hilly districts, including Rajouri, Doda and Kishtwar of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday observed a complete shutdown.

In Rajouri, the security has been scaled up while the markets remained closed. Police and CRPF also conducted a flag march in the town, ahead of the hearing.

A senior police official said patrolling has been enhanced in the region while security personnel are monitoring the situation due to total bandh.

However, Kishtwar and Doda districts also observed a complete shutdown barring some of the shops owned by the minority community, which remained open.

Protests were also staged against abrogation of Article 35-A in these districts.

In Jammu, protest was staged seeking revocation of Article 35-A and it was termed as ‘Black Law’ in Jammu and Kashmir.

There was no incident of any violence.

As per reports, the Supreme Court deferred hearing on Article 35-A till January 2019.
