90 civilians, 581 militants killed in various encounters during past four years

110 militants, 18 civilians killed in 2018 so far

 

Srinagar: At least 581 militants and 90 civilians were killed during various militancy related violence in Jammu and Kashmir in past four years, the ministry of home affairs revealed.

According to the data, in the year 2018 up to 22 July, 110 militants and 18 civilians were killed during various encounters and militancy related incidents.

In 2017, 213 militants and 40 civilians, highest in the four years so far, were killed during the encounters and other militancy related violence.

While in 2016, 150 militants and 15 civilians were killed in militancy related incidents.

In 2015, the ministry of home affairs data reveals that 108 militants and 17 civilians were killed during various militancy related incidents.

“The Government regularly reviews the security situation in the State of Jammu and Kashmir,” the Minister of State for Home Affairs, Hansraj Gangaram Ahir stated in a written reply in the Lok Sabha

“In order to prevent activities of militants, numerous steps have been taken including strengthening of operational grid with enhanced human intelligence and use of technical intelligence grid”.

He said that Police and civil authorities of Jammu and Kashmir have been advising people through various media to stay away from encounter sites.

“The Government has also continuously encouraged policies to mainstream the youth, including providing employment opportunities to wean them away from militancy,” the minister stated.
