Lashkar militant killed in Handwara: Police

Srinagar: The police said that one Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) was killed in an encounter with the government forces in north Kashmir’s Handwara area.

Following specific intelligence inputs about the presence of a militant in Batapora village of Magam area in Handwara, police said a joint patrol of the government forces launched a search operation.

“During the searches, a hiding terrorist fired on the search party,” the police said.

“The fire was retaliated and in the ensuing encounter the terrorist was successfully eliminated by the joint patrol. No collateral damage was witnessed during the encounter”.

The police said that the slain militant belonged to Pakistan and was affiliated with LeT outfit, adding, arms and ammunition were also recovered from the encounter site.

Police has registered a case and investigation has been initiated in the instant matter.
