Two militants killed in Shopian gunfight

Srinagar: Two militants were killed while two army men, including an officer injured in a fierce gun-battle in Kundalan village in Shopian on Tuesday.

A joint team of army’s 34 RR, Special Operations Group (SOG) of police and CRPF in the wee hours today appeared in Kundalan village and launched cordon and search operation.

After army were searching houses, militants fired upon them, started gunfight.

The joint team, reports said, returned the fire triggering off a fierce encounter. In the exchange of fire, a junior commissioned officer and a soldier were injured.

The JCO was removed to army’s 92 Base hospital in Srinagar for specialized treatment, reports said.

Reports said that as the gun-battle turned intense, the government forces zeroed in the residential house killing at least two holed up militants. The identity of the militants is yet to be ascertained.
