Hope Vohra  will listen to experts, convert Rajbagh footbridge into motorable one: Omar

Srinagar: Backing ‘expert opinion’ that the footbridge in Rajbagh near Presentation Convent school in the summer capital, Srinagar, should be converted into a motorable bridge, former chief minister Omar Abdullah said this bridge should never have been downgraded to a pedestrian bridge.

Terming the decision by the previous PDP-BJP government to downgrade the bridge as ‘foolish’,  Abdullah hoped that Governor N N Vohra will take the expert opinion to its logical conclusion.

“This bridge should never have been downgraded to a pedestrian bridge. It was a foolish decision in the first place & I hope @jandkgovernor Vohra Sb takes the expert opinion to its logical conclusion,” Omar Abdullah, who is the Vice President of National Conference (NC), wrote on micro-blogging site twitter.

Abdullah was reacting to reports that the experts have sought intervention of the Governor to convert the footbridge in Rajbagh into a motorable bridge, asserting that it will ease the traffic pressure on Abdullah Bridge, which witnesses heavy traffic jams during peak hours.

The experts argue that the bridge, which has been constructed at a cost of Rs 12 crore, was earlier proposed to be a motorable bridge. (UNI)
