Srinagar: Traffic on the national highway, connecting Kashmir valley with the rest of the country, and historic Mughal road, was restored on Wednesday after disruption due to landslide, triggered by fresh rain during the night.

The 434-km-long Srinagar-Leh national highway, linking Ladakh region with Kashmir, was through for traffic movement despite rain.

”We suspended traffic on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway early on Wednesday morning due to landslides at Penthal,” a traffic police official told UNI.

The Border Roads Organisation (BRO), responsible for the maintenance of the highway, immediately pressed into service sophisticated machines and men to clear the landslides.

”Highway was through and we allowed light motor vehicles from both Srinagar and Jammu,” he said.

Heavy vehicles will ply from Srinagar to Jammu only and no heavy vehicle will be allowed from opposite direction.

However, heavy vehicles, carrying Amarnath pilgrims, will continue to ply from both sides irrespective of traffic restrictions.

Traffic on 86-km-long historic Mughal road, connecting Shopian in south Kashmir with Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu region, was also restored after remaining suspended due to landslides. Landslides were cleared and traffic was now plying from both sides, he added. (UNI)
