Srinagar: Claiming that halt in security operations in Kashmir was bringing peace to Kashmir, Director General Police, S.P Vaid, has said that recruitment of militants has come down in recent days while as law and order situation has also improved considerably.

“Recruitment of militants has declined in recent days and ceasefire has brought respite to the people in Kashmir valley particularly south Kashmir districts. We will review the situation after few days and take some more measures for stability of peace and order in the state,” Vaid told a local news gathering agency Kashmir News Service.

He credited the halt in security operations for the reduction in both the militant recruitment and in the incidents of law and order.

As such, the DGP claimed the unilateral ceasefire has brought respite to the people in Kashmir valley.

Even as Vaid did not provided the figures for the militant recruitment in Kashmir after the “Ramzaan ceasefire” was set in motion, The Kashmir press has reported that 10 youth joined the militant ranks while 30 percent of the total militant violence was also witnessed in past 28 days.

Reacting to the killing of two policemen in a militant attack at court complex Pulwama, Director General Police said that some “elements inimical to peace in the state are trying to derail the peace process”.
