Windies pulverise Sri Lanka by 226 runs to win the first test

Srinagar: West Indies have beaten Sri Lanka in the first test by a massive margin of 226 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the ongoing test series being played between two exciting sides in the Caribbean Islands.

In pursuit of an improbable target of 453 runs to win, the Lankan tigers were humbled for a paltry 226 in their last innings.

Barring their young batsman Kusal Mendis no Sri Lankan player showed up a fight.

For West Indies, Roston Chase (4) and Bishoo (3) took seven wickets between them in the second innings.

Earlier, the wicket-keeper batsman Dowrich’s unbeaten century (125*) helped West Indies to post a big first innings total (414/8 declared) after the visiting side Sri Lanka were all out for a mere 185 runs in their first innings.

In the first innings, Cummins claimed three wickets while Roach and Gabriel took two each.

In the second innings, Powell made crucial 88 to help his team post 223/7 declared.

For Lanka, Kumara took seven wickets in the match, four in the first and three in the second.

For his match winning ton, Shane Dowrich was adjudged player of the match.
