South Kashmir: Thousands attend funeral prayers of slain militants

Thousands of people attend funeral prayers of slain militants at Kulgam and Pulwama in South Kashmir on Wednesday a day after they were exhumed from Tangdhar yesterday night.

Sources said that people from different areas thronged to their native villages and participated in funeral of slain Mudasir Ahmad and Shiraz Ahmad Sheikh.

The duo were killed in Tangdhar sector of Kupwara on May 25. After their families identified them through social media and claimed that they are their sons.

They had demanded to exhume the bodies and to hand over to them for proper burial.

Meanwhile after the district administration approached the district magistrate Kupwara, both were exhumed and handed over to them yesterday night.

Witnesses said that Sheeraz was laid to rest in Lajoora after multiple funeral prayers. The last funeral was addressed by Hurriyat leader, Syed Ali Geelani telephonically before Sheeraz was laid to rest.

Meanwhile, most parts of Kulgam and Pulwama districts observed shutdown to mourn the killings of Mudassir and Sheeraz. The authorities have snapped internet services in the twin districts.

Mudassir had joined militant ranks soon after famous Hizb commander, Burhan Wani was killed in July 2016 while as Sheeraz had joined in 2017.
