Narbal stone pelting: Tourist dies, girl critical

 

A 22-year-old tourist died and a local girl injured after the vehicles were caught in massive stone pelting at Narbal area of Central Kashmirr’s Budgam district on Monday late night, police officials said.

The tourist has been identified as R Thirumani from Chennai. He succumbed to head injuries in Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences at Soura after he was hit with a stone. Their cab was allegedly attacked by a group of stone-pelters at Narbal on the Srinagar-Gulmarag highway.

Sources said that the protests were going on against the killing of civilians in the area when these vcehicles ferrying tourists were caught in stone pelting.

During the clashes at least half a dozen people were injured including this tourist. However, he succumbed to his injuries later.

Meanwhile, a case has been registered under FIR Number 57/2018 in Magam police station and investigation into the attack has been initiated. Culprits will be nabbed soon.

In another attack at the same spot in Narbal, a 19-year-old girl identified as Sabreena, a resident of Handwara was injured when their vehicle came under stone pelting at the same place.

Former J&K chief minister Omar Abdullah condemns attack on tourists and said, “this young man from Chennai died in my constituency and while I don’t support these goons, their method or  their ideology. I am deeply, deeply sorry that this happened and all and that too in my area I have been proud to represent since 2014”.

Meanwhile, the joint resistance leadership  had extended the strike call for one more day for Tuesday against the civilian, militant killings in Shopian.
