Father-son duo among 3 dead, 1 Injured As ‘Kotha’ Collapses in Daksum Anantnag

Srinagar, Sep 18: Three persons including a father-son duo were killed and another injured after a ‘Kotha’ (mud house) collapsed during wee hours on Sunday in Daksum area of Kokernag in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district, official sources said.

Identifying the deceased persons as Manzoor Ahmad Gorsi son of Mohammad Abdullah, Hajra Begum wife of Mohammad Hussain Gorsi and Manzoor Ahmad son of Manzoor Ahmad, all residents of Bidhard Kokernag they said that the unfortunate incident took place at Mather Pathar Behak in Daksum forest area.

District Admin Anantnag Disburses Relief of Rupees 1 Lac to NoKs of Mud House Collapse Victims

Authorities disbursed ex-gratia relief of Rupees one lac to the families of victims who lost their lives in a tragic incident at Daksum area in the South Kashmir district.

In addition to the ex-gratia relief, other items of need including blankets and kitchen utensils were also provided to the families, barely hours after the incident came to light.

In the reported incident, during the intervening night of 17/18 September, a mud house situated in Mather Patheri Daksum collapsed, claiming lives of three people namely Hajira Begum w/o Hussain Gorsi aged 55 years, Manzoor Gorsi s/o Mohd Abdullah aged 40 years and Asif Gorsi s/o Manzoor Gorsi aged 16 years, all residents of Bidhard. A fourth person, Shakeena daughter of Hussain Gorsi aged 12 years ‘is safe and is with her family’.

DC Anantnag said that immediately after reports regarding the incident were received, a team of revenue and police officials was deputed to the spot. He said that relief has been disbursed to the NoKs of victims and officials have been directed to provide all necessary assistance.
