One held for sharing obscene pictures, videos on social media: Police

Srinagar, Aug 03: Cyber Police Jammu on Wednesday arrested one accused for sharing obscene pictures and videos on social media platforms, an official said.

“On 31-07-2022, a written complaint was submitted by a victim (name withheld) R/O Kupwara, Srinagar A/P Jammu stated therein that an unknown person started threatening and black mailing her through Whatsapp messenger and Instagram by sending her morphed videos/pictures and also the said unknown person made viral these photographs/ videos through online social media platforms,” a police spokesman said in a statement .

On this information, a case under FIR number 41/2022 under section 66-E/67/67-A IT ACT was registered at Cyber Police Station Gandhi Nagar Jammu and investigation of the case was entrusted to Insp. Javid Chowdhary of Cyber Police Station Jammu. On further investigation/technical analysis one person namely Askhay Dogra S/O Ashok Kumar R/O Gangyal Jammu surfaced in the commission of said crime.

SP Operation Naresh Singh, constituted special teams comprising of Inspector Javid Chowdhary and Inspector Ravi Kant, along with other Police Officials under the supervision DSP Cyber Wasim Hamdani and the team acted swiftly and raided on different suspected locations to apprehend the accused/black mailer. The three mobiles and one Laptop were recovered from the possession of the accused and it was found that the said accused have used the 03 mobiles for the commission of above said crime.

Cyber Police Jammu appealed general public to remain aware against such Cyber crimes and not to get trapped and report immediately the commission of any such cyber crime to the Cyber Police Station Jammu.
