Three Media affiliated persons arrested for extortion in north Kashmir: Police

Srinagar: Kupwara police has arrested three persons for extorting money from a vendor in north Kashmir’s Kupwara town on a complaint filed by a vendor.

A police spokesman in a statement said that acting on a complaint filed by a Police Post Bazar Kupwara from a vendor namely Mohd Nazir Halwaie son of Ghulam Nabi Halwaie, a resident of Bijnore UP presently running a Sweets Shop at Regipora Kupwara to the effect that three persons namely Bilal Ahmad Magray son of Mohd Gulzar Magaray resident of Kandi Khas, Fayaz Ahmad Bhat son of Ab Khaliq Bhat resident of Bumhama Kupwara and Ab Rashid Pir son of Mohd Noor Din a resident of Manzgam kralpora approached him and shot a video.

After shooting the video, the trio called the complainant to their office and threatened the complainant that they will defame his shop , will get his shop closed and also people will ransack it, the spokesman said.

Upon requesting them not to blackmail the complainant, they demanded ₹ 20000 cash from from the complainant, he said.

Feeling threatened being an outsider, the complainant was forced to pay the demanded amount. The trio is running a local news agency named as “Quani Times”, the spokesman said.

Case FIR No. 82 under section 384,506 IPC has been registered in Police Station Kupwara and all the three persons have been arrested in the instant case , the spokesman added.
