Temperature plummets as Kashmir receives moderate rainfall

Srinagar, Sep 11: Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir has surpassed the monthly average rainfall after Kashmir parts received light to moderate rains since Friday evening, bringing down the temperature in the Valley.

Deputy Director Meteorological department (MeT), Mukhtar Ahmad said that there is possibility of more light to moderate rainfall across Kashmir till Saturday late evening.

The weather conditions would start gradually improving from Saturday late evening,” he said.

Asked about the rainfall experienced in Kashmir parts, Ahmad said that Srinagar has surpassed the monthly average rainfall.

The intermittent moderate rainfall since Friday evening has brought the temperature further down across the Valley.

According to the details available, Srinagar has recorded 22.2 degree Celsius temperature on Saturday while highest was recorded in Kupwara in northern Kashmir where mercury settled at 25.3 degree Celsius.

The lowest day temperature was recorded at world famous ski-resort, Gulmarg at 13.4 degree Celsius.

MeT spokesman informed that till 05:30 PM, Srinagar recorded 6.0 mm rainfall while Gulmarg received 16.0 mm. He further informed that Qazigund and Pahalgam in Southern Kashmir received 11.6 and 7.9 mm rainfall from 08:30 AM to 05:30 Pm today. kno
