Gurez, July 31: A 50 year old man died mysteriously inside an army camp in Tarbal area which is 26 kilometers away from district headquarter Gurez in North Kashmir’s Banipora district.
The death of the man sparked protest in Bagroor area prompting administration to snap the mobile network.
Locals alleged that man died in army custody while Srinagar based Defense Spokesperson Emron Musavi told news agency Kashmir News Trust that civil and police teams have rushed to spot to ascertain the facts. “It will be too early to shed light on the incident at this stage. We are ascertaining the facts and will share the details with you,” he said adding that deceased is a 52-year-old man.
Locals alleged that Muhammad Abdullah Hajam was in the custody of 36 RR at Tarbal where he died.
A police official from Gurez told KNT that all the top officers have rushed to the area to ascertain the facts. He said police have not registered any FIR yet and once the team will ascertain the facts, a formal case at police post Ismarg will be registered.
The police official identified the deceased as Muhammad Abdullah Hajam.
Later divulging information about the death of an old man in Gurez, Army this evening said that he slipped to death while assisting army in locating some suspects.
Army said that on Friday night, Abdullah Hazam, of Tharbal, Gurez, saw some suspicious movement in the forest area ahead of Tharbal village.
“He immediately informed the nearest army post about the suspicious activity. Army search party along with him went to search the area in the darkness.”
“While the party was moving through a slushy patch, he unfortunately slipped into the nallah. The soldiers immediately rescued him and brought him to the nearest military doctor. The doctor immediately examined him and gave first aid. However, despite the best efforts of the doctor, Abdullah Hazam could not be saved and passed away due to his injuries at 8 am.”
Army said that post mortem has been conducted and the body is being handed over to the family.
Army further said that all possible assistance is being provided to the family of Abdullah Hazam. KNT
