A senior police official said that Zakir Naik, who was killed in Kulgam encounter on June 30 had joined militant ranks only a few days ago before he was killed.

He said that there was no truth in the rumours that Zakir was not a militant.

Meanwhile, police appealed to the people not to believe in rumours and warned that legal action will be taken against those who are spreading rumours. kns
