Tral Update: ‘Suspected Person Fires From Inside SOG Camp, Police Brings Family To Persuade Him for Surrender

Srinagar, June 02: Police has brought family of the suspect person to SOG camp of police in Tral area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district to persuade him to surrender, police said.

A senior police officer said that the suspected person, Muhammad Amin, after snatching weapons during questions from police has fired several rounds from a room inside the camp. “Efforts are underway to persuade him to surrender. His mother and other family members have been brought to convince him,” the officer said, adding, “He has fired few rounds from inside the room.”

Earlier, a policeman was injured after the suspected person fired at him during questioning in the SOG camp, Inspector General of Police Vijay Kumar said.

“One suspect during questioning snatched weapon of one policeman and fired upon in which one constable was injured,” the top police officer said.

“SSP Awantipora is trying to make him surrender. No other policemen inside room and there is no hostage situation,” he had said. The injured policeman has been identified as Amjid Ahmad.

Sources said that the suspected person’s brother was a militant who was killed in a gunfight in 2019. gns
