Covid-19: Vaccines ‘vanish’ in Kashmir

Srinagar, May 17: Amid steep rise in the Covid-19 cases and deaths, Kashmir division continues to face an acute shortage of Covid-19 vaccines.

On daily basis receives calls from every nook and corner of Valley that people wanted to get vaccinated, but vaccines are not available.

They said that neither there are Covishield not Covaxin available at any Centre and claims of government that everything in adequate quantity is available is proving hoax on ground.

Muhammed Yousuf, a resident of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district, said that before two months he got first dose at his residence for which he was thankful to medical staff but from last two weeks now he has been visiting the nearby vaccination centers to get the second dose but vaccines are nowhere available.

He said that has condition so much deteriorated in Kashmir that authorities are even failing to manage the vaccines now which they have been claiming as the best weapon to combat Covid.

People have appealed to LG Manoj Sinha and other higher ups to personally look into the matter and make vaccines available at an earliest so that they can get vaccines at an earliest and break the chain.

State Immunisation Officer Dr Shahid Hussain said  that they are expecting to get a new lot of vaccines tomorrow and accordingly it will distributed across Kashmir.

He said that as of now “we have just one vaccine site for Covaxin that is at SMHS where on daily basis 300 persons are getting vaccinated.”

He said that our main vaccine is Covishield which we are expecting to get tomorrow after which process will resume across Kashmir. kno
