Gunfight breaks out in Shopian, 4 newly recruited militants ‘trapped’

Srinagar, May 6: At least four newly recruited militants were trapped amid a cordon-and-search operation in Kenigam area of Shopian district, officials said on Thursday.

A senior police officer said that efforts are underway to make them surrender. “We have brought their families and are trying to persuade them to surrender,” the officer said. He responded in negative to reports about gunfight having started.

Last night, police, army’s 44 Rashtriya Rifles and CRPF had launched a cordoned and search operation in the area amid specific information about the presence of militants. gns
