NIA conducts raids at residences of HR Activists, journalists, on GK office

Srinagar. October 28: The National Investigating Agency (NIA) has conducted simultaneous raids at multiple locations in Srinagar including the residences of human rights activists and journalists of Kashmir and Greater Kashmir office.

According to the reports, the NIA raided the house of renowned Human Rights activist Khurram Pervaiz and office of Athrut NGO and residences of its office bearers Bashir Ahmad Wani Athrut.

The raids were also conducted on the offices Greater Kashmir, the daily English Newspaper office at Partap Park in Srinagar, house of its former Executive Editor Zahirudin besides Hilton houseboat in Dal lake.

Reports added that NIA raided a building in Hyderpora Srinagar which is owned by one Ghulam Qader Malik.

They said building is being used on rent basis by an organization called Association of Parents for Disappeared Persons (APDP). This Association fights for the cause of those families whose dear ones have been disappeared after the start of struggle against India in 1990’s.

A team of NIA also raided the flat of senior Journalist Parvez Bukhari at Naaz Colony Pantha Chowk in Srinagar outskirts. Bukhari is associated with International Media Outlet AFP and is the resident of Rawalpora Srinagar.

Reports also said that the house of an Hurriyat Activist was also raided in Brar area of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district. The Activist has been identified as Muhammad Yousf Sofi alias Salman s/o Abdul Rashid Sofi.

National Investigating Agency (NIA) Wednesday said that it conducted searches at 10 locations in Srinagar and Bandipora in the case pertaining to “so-called NGOs and Trusts raising funds in India and abroad in the name of charitable activities and then using the same funds for secessionist and separatist activities in J&K.”

NIA official statement said  it conducted searches at 10 locations in Srinagar and Bandipora (J&K) and one location in Bangalore in connection with a case pertaining to “certain so-called NGOs and Trusts raising funds in India and abroad in the name of charitable activities and then using those funds for carrying out secessionist and separatist activities in J&K.”

“This case was registered by NIA on 8/10/2020 u/s 120B, 124 A IPC and sections 17, 18, 22A, 22C, 38, 39 and 40 UA(P)A, 1967 on receipt of credible information that certain NGOs and Trusts are collecting funds domestically and abroad through so-called donations and business contributions etc. and are then utilizing these funds for secessionist and terrorist activities in J&K,” the NIA official said.

He said that those whose premises have been searched include residence and office of Khurram Parvez (co-ordinator of J&K Coalition of Civil Society), his associates viz. Parvez Ahmad Bukhari, Parvez Ahmad Matta and Bengaluru-based associate viz. Swati Sheshadri; Ms. Parveena Ahanger, Chairperson of Association of Parents of Disappeared Persons ( APDPK) and offices of NGO Athrout and GK Trust.

“Several incriminating documents and electronic devices have been seized. Further investigation in the case is continued,” the official further said
