South Kashmir: Gunfight breaks out in Tral, militant killed

Srinagar, September 24: A militant was killed after a gunfight broke out between militants and government forces in Machoma Tral area of South Kashmir’s Awantipora on Thrusday.

A senior Police officer said that during the intial exchange of firing one militant of Al-Badr identified as Irfan Ahmad Dar resident of Gadikal was killed. He had joined the outfit on 20th August this year.

The police officer further said that a civilian was brought to the encounter site to persuade the hiding militant, however he refused to surrender.

Earlier,, a joint team of Police and Army’s 42 RR aunched a cordon-and-search-operation in Machoma Tral.

As the joint team encircled the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them. The fire was retaliated by the joint team, triggering off an encounter.(GNS)
