Two OGWs arrested, arms and ammunition recovered in Mendhar: Police

Poonch, Sep 12): Jammu and Kashmir police on Saturday claimed to have busted a militant module in Mendhar area of Poonch by recovering a huge cache of arms and ammunition and arresting two Over Ground Workers (OGWs).

In a statement, police spokesman said that on specific input, a joint operation comprising of Army, Mendhar police and SOG Jammu was launched to intercept the couriers of arms, ammunitions and explosives along with other subversive material.

“The security forces’ parties were deputed to intercept the couriers of this material along with the arms, ammunitions, explosives and other material to be used in subversive activities. The material was supposed to be carried from forward area to hinterland for subversive activities,” police said.

He said that as of now two OGWs have been arrested while arms and ammunition has been recovered from them. “In this connection, a case under FIR number 217/ 2020 under relevant sections of Unlawful Activity Prevention Act (UAPA) has been registered at Police Station Mendhar,” he added.

He added that recovery includes three Chinese pistols, six pistol magazines, 70 pistol rounds, 11 hand grenades, one wireless set, one IED, two batteries, two flags, one mobile phone, one charger, one pen drive and other related materials to IED.

Police said that further interrogations have been going on in this case, adding that the consignment was sent from Pakistan-administered Kashmir (PaK).
