Sirgufwara Anantnag encounter: Two militants killed, Lady Teacher Injured during gunfight

 

Anantnag, July 13: At least two Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM)militant were killed while a lady teacher was injured after an encounter broke out between militants and government forces in Srigufwara area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district, this morning.

Inspector General of Police Kashmir Vijay Kumar said that among the slain includes a Pakistani.

The gunfight had ensued after a joint team of Police, Army’s 03 RR and E/116 of CRPF launched a cordon-and-search-operation in Srigufara on a “specific input regarding presence of militants in the area”.

“During the search operation as the presence of (militants) got ascertained they were given opportunity to surrender. However they fired indiscriminately upon the joint search party, which was retaliated, leading to an encounter,” a police spokesperson said, adding, “In the indiscriminate firing by (militants), one woman received gunshot injuries. She was shifted to hospital for treatment where her condition is stated to be stable.”

Meanwhile, the spokesperson said that in the ensuing encounter, two terrorists affiliated with JeM were killed and their bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter.

“One of the killed has been identified as Nasir alias Shahbaz alias Baz Bai,a Pakistan resident, ‘A’ category (militant), while as the identification of the other killed (militant) is being ascertained.”

He said arms and ammunition and other “incriminating materials” were recovered from the site of encounter.

“Keeping in view present covid situation, the bodies of the killed militants (has been) sent to Baramulla for their last rites after conducting medico-legal formalities including collection of their DNA.” (GNS)
