Another militant, non-local labourer killed in Shopian gunfight, toll 4

Srinagar: One more militant and a non-local laborer were killed in an ongoing gunfight with government forces in Pandushan area of South Kashmir’s Shopian on Saturday taking the toll to four.

Official sources said that one more militant was killed and his body was recovered from the encounter site. He has been identified as Manzoor Ahmad, a resident of Wachi in Shopian.

They said that one body is lying near the encounter site and it is believed to be that of a non-local resident who was working as a laborer in the area. Sources identified him as Mujeeb, a resident of Bihar.

Yesterday one militant and a soldier were killed during the gunfight. The slain militant killed yesterday was identified as Zeenat-Ul-Islam, a resident of Memender.

The encounter broke out on Thursday evening in Ittoo Mohalla Pandoshan village after a joint team of army’s 34 RR, SOG of Jammu and Kashmir, and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation.

Meanwhile, Police in a statement said that Manzoor as per police records was affiliated with Hizb and was wanted by law for his complicity in series of “terror” crimes including attack on security establishments and civilian atrocities.

According to the police records, he was part of a group involved in planning and executing attacks in the area. Several cases were registered against him including case FIR No. 25/2019 of Police Station Zainapora pertaining to killing of a civilian, the spokesperson said.

He said that incriminating material including arms and ammunition was recovered from the site of encounter.
