Geelani chairs Executive Council meeting of Hurriyat (G), says Kashmir dispute ‘unfinished agenda of partition’

Srinagar: Octogenarian Hurriyat Patriarch Syed Ali Geelani on Friday chaired a day-long Majlish Shoora (Executive Council) meeting at Hurriyat Conference (G) head office in Hyderpora Srinagar. The meeting deliberated in detail, the current political situation pertaining to the “movement for right to self-determination”, a spokesperson said in a statement.

In his presidential address, Syed Ali Geelani termed Kashmir dispute as an unfinished agenda of the partition of India in 1947. “None of the basic three parties to this dispute India, Pakistan and the people of Kashmir are in a position to avoid any untoward consequences of this visible danger in South Asia,” he warned.

“The Indian approach as an ostrich gesture to hoodwink its position from the hard ground reality in Kashmir,” he said.

Geelani expressed dismay on the Indian arrogance not to read the writing on the wall and resort to the policies of oppression and repression while dealing with the popular voice for right to self-determination.

Urging the pro-freedom people of the state to remain vigilant, steadfast and well disciplined to take the sacred mission of their resistance movement to its logical conclusion irrespective of use of “military might by India to suppress the freedom sentiments of the people of Kashmir”, Hurriyat chairman expressed his hope that the freedom loving people of Kashmir shall never succumb or surrender to the “military might and pressure of India”.

“Our movement is a legitimate demand recognized by the United Nations and endorsed by the overwhelming majority of the people of Kashmir since October 1997,” said the veteran Hurriyat leader.

Rejecting outrightly the vicious campaign and propaganda against the religion of Islam at international level, pro-freedom leader said Islam teaches justice and equality, stand by the truth and righteousness and fight against the evil and barbarism. The kindest system of life has nothing to do with terrorism and extremism, he added.

Urging freedom loving people of Kashmir, particularly the youth, to follow the teachings of Islam in letter and spirit, Hurriyat chairman asserted that we have offered exemplary sacrifices for the last seven decades which as a nation cannot ignore or allow any sell out for petty political gains.

Reiterating the stand of Hurriyat Conference relating to the essence of conflict resolution through meaningful dialogue, pro-freedom leader said that time and again we have agreed upon a formula and the people of Kashmir, but unfortunately, the Indian stubbornness has remained a stumbling block to go ahead in this direction. “India is still hellbent to suppress the freedom sentiments of the people of Kashmir by engaging its military power so it has become highly imperative for the international community to prevail upon India for an early resolution of Kashmir dispute and fulfill its pledges and commitments as recorded before the United Nations,” he added.

Hurriyat chairman castigating forces for the “grave violation of human rights” in the nook and corner of the state of Jammu and Kashmir demanded a high probe by the United Nations Human Rights Council, Amnesty International, Asia Watch and International Red Cross Committee and set a war crime tribunal to investigate the genocide, rape and molestation of women , destruction of residential houses and other valuable properties, showering bullets and pellets during the cordon and search operations carried out by the forces against the subjugated people of Kashmir.

The meeting resolved to carry the ongoing movement for right to self-determination to its logical conclusion.
