Anantnag: One militant has been killed in a gunfight with government forces in Nowgam Shahabad area of Verinag in Anantnag district Saturday morning.

Reports said that one militant has been killed while his identity is being ascertained. 

The encounter ensued after a cordon-and-search operation was launched by a joint team of Army’s 19 RR, CRPF and Jammu and Kashmir Police’s SOG in the area.

As forces zeroed in on the suspected spot, hiding militants fired upon forces triggering a gunfight, they said.

Meanwhile, authorities have snapped mobile internets services in the district.
