Ten days NIA custody for three separatists arrested in terror funding case

New Delhi:  A city court on Tuesday ordered 10 days National Investigation Agency (NIA) custody for three pro-freedom leaders including Masarat Alam, Asiya Andrabi and Shabir Shah in the alleged “terror funding case”.

NIA had registered a case on May 30, 2017, and had filed a charge sheet on January 18, 2018, against Hafiz Saeed,  Hizbul Mujahideen Commander Syed Salahuddin and 10 Kashmiri pro-freedom leaders in a case of alleged “terror funding” and secessionist activities in the Valley.

The agency, after a probe, had filed charge sheet against the accused persons under sections 120 B (criminal conspiracy) defined under the provisions of Indian Penal Code and various provisions of the 1967 Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

NIA has arrested Aftab Hilali Shah alias Shahid ul Islam, Ayaz Akbar Khandey, Farooq Ahmad Dar alias Bitta Karate, Nayeem Khan, Altaf Ahmad Shah, Raja Mehrajuddin Kalwal and Bashir Ahmad Bhat alias Peer Saifullah in this case.

Asiya Andrabi and Shabir Shah were already in custody in separate cases while Masarat Alam was brought from Jammu and Kashmir on transit remand.

Special Judge Rakesh Syal today, heard in camera proceedings, the plea on behalf of NIA which sought 15 days custodial interrogation.
