Srinagar: Two militants of Lashkar-e-Taiba outfit were killed in an encounter at Dangerpora area of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Thursday.

A police spokesman in a statement said that the operation was launched following a credible input about the presence of the militants at Dangerpora area of Sopore.

During the search operation, the hiding militants fired on the search party. The fire was retaliated leading to an encounter, the spokesman said.

In the ensuing encounter, two militants were killed and their bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter, he said.

Incriminating material including arms & ammunition was recovered from the site of encounter, he said.

Meanwhile, Superintendent Police Sopore Javeed Iqbal identified the slain as Nasser Ahmed Mir alias Tawseef son of Mohammad Yousuf Mir of Brath Kalan and Asif Ahmed War son of Ghulam Mohammad War of Warpora Sopore. He said that 2 AK 47 and 6 Magazines were recovered from their procession. “Both the slain as per police records were affiliated with LeT outfit”.

According to official sources Naseer Ahmed Mir was active since 17/11/2017 while Asif was missing from his home since 2/02/2019.

“According to the police records, Naseer had a history of crime records since 2017. Naseer was part of groups involved in planning and executing a series of militant attacks in the area and many other civilian atrocities. Several crime cases were registered against him. He was involved in case FIR No 319/2017 pertaining to killing of a civilian namely Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Sheikh son of Mohammad Ramzan Sheikh resident of Bomai,” he said.

Asif, as per police records was also involved in militant-related crimes in the area, he said.

“After conducting all legal medico formalities, the bodies of the slain were handed over to their respective families for last rites”.

Meanwhile, authorities suspended internet services in Sopore town and closed all educational institutions in Sopore in wake of the gunfight.
