Sopore: A militant has been killed in an ongoing gunfight with government forces at Banpora village of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Thursday.

Reports said that a joint team of army’s 22 RR and Jammu and Kashmir police’s SOG launched a cordon-and-search operation in the village following inputs about the presence of militants.

As the forces intensified the searches and fired some warning shots towards the suspected spot, the militants hiding inside opened fire leading to a gunfight, a police official said.

“One militant has been killed in the initial exchange of fire while the operation is going on,” he said, adding, the identity of the deceased militant was not known immediately. (KNO)
