Kulgam: A militant has been killed in a predawn gunfight with government forces in Mohammad Pora village of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Wednesday.

The gunfight ensued after a joint team of government forces including Army’s 9 RR, 18 BN CRPF and Jammu and Kashmir Police launched a cordon and search operation over inputs about the presence of militants in the area.

Police sources said that as the government forces intensified the searches around the suspected spot, the militants fired upon forces triggering a gunfight.

They said that during the exchange of fire one militant has been killed. However, the identification of the slain is yet to be ascertained while the search operation is still underway.

The authorities have snapped the mobile internet services in the district as a precautionary measure.
