Attach Hilal Dewani immediately or face adverse orders: Govt warns SMC

Raps SMC for not providing records to SDA for completion of inquiry against Dewani

Srinagar: Finally the government seems to have woken up from its deep slumber.

The government has made it clear to the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) that it should immediately implement government orders of attaching the Secretary SMC, Hilal Dewani or face severe action.

The Kashmir Press had earlier reported that Secretary SMC, Hilal Dewani, who was attached by the government pending an inquiry, was freely operating from his office.

“I am directed to refer you government order number 99-HUD of 2019 issued under endorsement number HUD/LSG/SMC/141/2015 dated 27-03-2019 whereunder Sh. Hilal Ahmad Dewani, Secreatry SMC has been attached with housing board, J&K, Srinagar and request you to strictly implement the said Govt. Order by the relieving the officer immediately to avoid any adverse orders,” read the order issued by Syed Nazir Ahmad, Under Secretary to Government, Housing and Urban Development Department.

The order further raps SMC for not providing the relevant information regarding Dewani’s case to the Srinagar Development Authority (SDA), so that inquiry against him is completed.

“Further, you are once again requested to provide the relevant record/information to vice chairman, Srinagar Development Authority as asked by him from time to time for completion of inquiry”.

In March, the government had attached secretary Dewani with housing board, Jammu and Kashmir, Srinagar.

The order duly signed by Principal Secretary housing and urban development department, Dheeraj Gupta, read that Dewani was attached following his pending inquiry.

The order, however, did not spell out the reasons for the attachment.

Despite attachment orders, SMC official continues to operate from his office, sign documents and does other related official work.
