JKLF condemns PSA on Noor Kalwal, demands release of prisoners

Srinagar: Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) zonal president Noor Muhammad Kalwal has been booked under Public Safety Act (PSA) and shifted to Mattan jail Anantnag on Saturday, party said.

JKLF chief spokesperson Muhammad Rafiq Dar in a statement  said that Noor Muhammad Kalwal was arrested by police on 30 April 2019 and was lodged at police station Kothi Bagh.

“Early today police informed him of being booked under PSA and immediately shifted him to Anantnag jail,” he said.

Dar added that the PSA of another JKLF leader Zahoor Ahmad Butt who is incarcerated at the same jail for the last many months has also been extended by three months.

Terming the move as travesty of justice, JKLF spokesperson said in the holy month of Ramadhan and at the eve of Eid like festivals, inmates are freed from jails but in Kashmir jails are being filled with more and more inmates.

He appealed the international human rights groups like Amnesty international, Asia Watch, ICRC and United Nations Human Rights Commission to take cognizance of this “Indian hegemonic attitude”.

“It is the obligation of the international community to safeguard these inmates and secure their earliest release from jails,” the JKLF spokesperson said.
