Srinagar: All roads leading to historic Jamia Masjid in downtown Srinagar were closed as a precautionary measure to prevent any demonstration on Friday, as the Kashmir valley is observing a complete shutdown against civilian and militant killings on the call of Joint Resistance Leadership.

Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Jammu and Kashmir police have been deployed in the Jamia Market around the historic Masjid since early this morning to prevent assembly of people. 

The main gates of Masjid were also closed and security force bunker vehicles have been parked to prevent people from entering the worship place, stronghold of moderate Hurriyat Conference (HC) chairman Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq, who is addressing Friday’s congregation every week.

Security forces have closed main road leading to Masjid, including at Rangar Stop, Nowhatta and Gojwara. 

However, there was no restriction in any part of the downtown and Shehar-e-Khas (SeK), where shops and business establishments remained closed and traffic was off the roads in response to the shutdown call.
