On slain Professor’s anniversary Kashmir university students hold sit-in, pay tributes

Srinagar: Scores of students of Kashmir University’s Sociology department on Tuesday held a protest sit-in inside the department lawns to pay tributes to Professor Muhammad Rafi.

Rafi was killed in a gunfight with government forces on May 6 last year in southern Kashmir’s Shopian district. He had joined the militant ranks a day earlier.

Reports said that scores of students who spoke on the occasion paid tributes to the slain Professor.

A student said that the program was scheduled on Monday, May 6 but since the university was off, therefore it was held today. “Professor Rafi is our hero and a role model. He is our inspiration. We will miss him always,” he said.
