Youth injured as violent clashes erupt near Shopian gunfight site

Srinagar: A youth has suffered injuries after he was hit by a bullet in his leg during violent clashes that erupted around the gunfight site in south Kashmir’s Shopian village.

Reports said that Mudasir Ahmad, a resident of Wuyan village of Imam Sahab area suffered a bullet injury in his leg following which he was shifted to a hospital for treatment.

They said that the killing of two militants during a gunfight with the forces in Imam Sahab area of Shopian triggered violent protests.

Youth took to streets and clashed with the forces near the gunfight site in Adkhara village.

The clashes were also received from Lal Chowk, Reshi Bazar and Old Town areas of Anantnag following rumours of the killing of a local militant in the Shopian gunfight.

An official said two militants were killed in a gunfight in Adkhara early today after the army, police and the CRPF launched a cordon-and-search-operation in the area.

He said the identity of the slain militants was being ascertained.
