Killing in Police custody: Omar demands exemplary punishment for killers of ‘Jama’at activist’

Srinagar: Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday termed the killing of a south kashmir resident in Police custody as “unacceptable development”  and said that the incident must be investigated in a transparent, time bound manner.

Omar tweeted: “I had hoped custodial deaths were a thing of our dark past. This is an unacceptable development & must be investigated in a transparent, time bound manner. Exemplary punishment must be handed out to the killers of this young man.”

Identified as Rizwan Asad,a  resident o Awantipora, the slain was arrested by police three days ago and was shifted to Srinagar for questioning.

A police official said that Asad was being questioned in a “terror” related case.

Today morning, reports said that Asad died during questioning in police custody.
