Kupwara: A militant has been killed in an ongoing gunfight with government forces at Baderpayeen area of Handwara in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

Reports said that the gunfight ensued after militants attacked army late last night during a cordon-and-search-operation in the area. 

There was a brief exchange of gunfire late Wednesday night during which a militant was killed while as the cordon was strengthened and more reinforcements were rushed to the spot, sources said.

The operation was put on hold for night and searches were resumed in the morning during which body of the militant was recovered.
