Srinagar: Jama’at-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday denounced the ongoing arrest spree by local police and other forces across the valley and termed it murder of democracy and appealed Human Rights Groups, United Nations Organization and OIC to intervene into grave situation prevailing in state of Jammu and Kashmir and use their influence to stop the ‘lawlessness’ at the hands of forces.

A spokesperson of JeI in a statement said, state government while misusing its power is trying to appease BJP and other communal forces and have unleashed atmosphere of terror across the valley wherein hundreds of young and old have been detained under baseless grounds. “The repressive policy adopted by the state authority clearly smells bad and thus are trying to choke every peaceful political exercise in and around.”

He said that for the past two days police have arrested hundreds of Jama’at members including its top leadership. “On Sunday Jama’at chief Dr Abdul Hameed Fayaz has been produced before District Magistrate Budgam who sent him to central jail Srinagar under judicial custody till 2nd March, 2019.”

Meanwhile Jama’at’s deputy Chief Moulana Ahmad Ullah Parray (Makki) was also detained by Islamabad police along with famous religious scholar Peer Noor-ud-din.  “Besides this, dozens of Tehsil leadership from south to north have also been arrested. Moreover police also detained Jamiat Ahle-Hadith deputy Moulana Mushtaq Ahmad Veeri, Moulana Mohammad Maqbool Akhurni and many other religious leaders from different organizations.”

Jama’at condemned the arrest spree and termed it undemocratic and gross violation of human rights.
