Saudia Arabia categorically says back UN resolution on Kashmir, calls for preserving Kashmir interests

Srinagar: Saudi Arabia has categorically stated that the country backs the United Nations (UN) resolutions on Kashmir and that India and Pakistan should hold talks to preserve the Kashmiri interests.

In response to a question that whether the Saudi Kingdom views Kashmir through the lens of India or Pakistan, Saudi minister of state for foreign affairs Adel al-Jubeir, said;

“We have said there are UN resolutions with regard to Kashmir that Saudi Arabia supports,” Jubeir said during an interview to a TV channel.

“We have urged the two countries sit at the negotiating table and resolve those issues amicably, in a way that preserves the interest of Kashmiri people, and, also the interests of India and Pakistan. We believe where there is good will and honest dialogue a resolution to this issue can be achieved”.

Asked that Pakistan was responsible for the “cross border terrorism,” Jubeir said that he was not sure who was responsible for such thing.

“I am not aware of that,” he said.

In view of the Pulwama attack which left 49 CRPF men did and triggered tensions between the two nuclear armed neighbors, Saudi Arabia said the situation between India and Pakistan should be de-escalated.

When told that will Saudi help India to take action against the proscribed “militant outfits operating from Pakistan,” Jubeir said that he had no evidence with that regard.

He also said that 27 lakh Indians were working in Saudia Arabia.
