Srinagar: National Conference (NC) vice president and former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday said that Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) goes to Delhi for begging over the demand for deferment of polls in the state

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a public rally at Shangus in Anantnag district, Omar hit out at both PDP and BJP, saying that PDP goes to Delhi for begging over the demand for deferment of polls as the party has lost ground in Kashmir and PDP’s demand suits BJP which too has lost ground in its strong bastion Jammu.

Alleging that PDP leaders visit Delhi darbars with the demand for deferment of assembly polls due to its poor failure in running a coalition government in alliance with BJP during last three years, Omar said keeping in view the ruling of the Supreme Court of India on holding assembly polls within six months after the imposition of president’s rule in any state, the holding of Lok Sabha and assembly polls simultaneously is a big challenge for Prime Minister Modi.

He said National Conference has always stood for timely conduct of elections and is vehemently opposed to any deferment of the assembly polls in the state.

Taking a dig at Omar over his remarks that PDP is approaching Delhi to postpone the assembly elections, Rafi Ahmad Mir, PDP’s Chief Spokesperson said that National Conference is clearly misinformed as the party was  ready for the electoral battle.

“It is up to Election Commission of India now to take a call, Mir said.

Mir said PDP was ready for people’s court but this statement by Omar was a clear case of misinformation.

He alleged that Omar was “inventing information to misguide masses”.

Mir said that PDP representative in the all party meet held by ECI, advocated for early polls, it’s a constitutional requirement also to conduct polls in a time bound manner, why would PDP object to that, Mir said.
