Classes remain suspended in colleges, universities in Kashmir

Srinagar: Classes remained suspended on Tuesday in the colleges and universities in the Kashmir valley as a precautionary measure in view of prevailing situation following killing of seven persons in security force action on demonstrators.

Three Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) militants, including an army deserter and a soldier were also killed in an encounter at Sirnoo in Pulwama on Saturday evoking massive demonstrations in Pulwama.

The Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) had called for a three-day strike from Saturday against Pulwama killings.

A Kashmir University (KU) spokesman said that classes will remain suspended in the university.

The Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), Awantipora, Pulwama has also suspended classes today.

A spokesman for the IUST said class work and all examinations which were scheduled to be held have been suspended.

However, no reason was given for postponing examinations. No examinations were held on Monday also. He said fresh dates for examinations will be announced later.

A Central University Kashmir (CUK) spokesperson said classes in the varsity will remain suspended. The university had postponed scheduled examinations yesterday.
