New Delhi: The BJP on Tuesday reconciled to their fate in Chhattisgarh and appeared ready to give up power and make way for return of the Congress.

“We will introspect of what happened in Chhatisgarh,” BJP spokesman Shahnawaz Hussain told reporters at the party headquarters.

Immediately after the formation of the new state of Chhattisgarh, the Congress was in power but it lost 2003 elections to BJP.

BJP spokesman Nalin Kohli admitted that the mandate in Chhattisgarh was clearly against it.

One senior BJP leader declined to say that “there is a pall of gloom” in the saffron party camp after the trends of vote count showed that BJP was sure to lose power in Chhatisgarh and also faced tough fight in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.

On Rajasthan poll results, a BJP source exuded confidence that despite trends suggesting BJP’s defeat, the saffron party could still manage to retain power in the desert state.

“Although number of rounds of counting of votes are over, still few crucial rounds are left and things will change in our favour,” a BJP source said.

According to latest trends, BJP was leading in 82 while Congress maintained leads in 94 and among others BSP was leading in three while CPI-M established early leads in two seats.
