Naveed Jatt killing: IUST students protest, clashes erupt

Srinagar: Protests erupted in Islamic University of Science and Technology Awantipora on Wednesday afternoon following the killing of top Lashkar commander Naveed Jatt and his associate in a gunfight with government forces earlier today.

Sources said that the students of the varsity assembled in the campus and marched towards the Srinagar-Jammu highway amid intense pro-Pakistan and pro-freedom sloganeering.

While the students were marching towards the highway, a police team intercepted them. “The students hurled stones on government forces triggering clashes,” they said.

The government forces used tear smoke shells to disperse the protesting students who kept pelting stones.

The clashes between the students and government forces were going on when this report was being filed.
